Seek His Presence Continually!
Psalm 105:4 says,
“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
I’m confident that many of us in this room seek the Lord from time to time. A crisis in life arises, and you pray. You wake up most mornings and read your Bible…
But the good challenge for us in this verse comes with that last word, continually… We are to seek the Lord’s presence, continually. It’s similar to when Paul tells us to pray without ceasing.
Now, neither of these verses imply that we simply lock ourselves in our rooms and have a never-ending quiet time. God calls us to a life of action and good works in the real world. But these verses do invite us into the great joy of constant, conscious, communion with our Creator. And this is a great privilege that we so often tragically neglect.
So, the exhortation this morning is simple: In the midst of our busyness…
“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
And this reminds us of our need to confess our sins…
Prayer of Confession
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart… and particularly, we fall woefully short of this joyful command to seek your presence continually.
So often our minds and hearts are consumed with the pursuit of things that are infinitely less valuable than you.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. And we ask for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.
So, search our hearts O God as you lead us now in a time of silent confession…
