Love the Lord Your God
In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus says,
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment.”
These are well-known words, but do we really live them out?
Jesus says “you” shall love the Lord your God. The “you” is a personal you. It’s to each individual sitting here this morning.
Each of you are commanded by God to love God. He wants you to have affections for him!
Not only that, but he commands your love for Him to be unrivaled. With all that you are (heart, soul, mind), to the highest degree (all of your heart, all of your soul, all of your mind).
So, to each individual here… Do you love God? Do you love God with all your heart, soul, and mind?
My exhortation this morning is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
And this reminds us of our need to confess our sins…
Prayer of Confession
Father you are worthy, Son you are worthy, Holy Spirit you are worthy, of all of our love and affections. We have sinned against you by loving other things more than you. Lord, this is a great evil. You are worth all of that love. So we confess it to you and bring it to you and ask for your forgiveness in Christ. We bring this sin to you, and any other sins that your Holy Spirit would bring to mind, now in this time of silent confession…
