Tell Your Gospel Stories

We live in world that is inundated with stories. Look at our bookshelves filled with stories. Or to the multiple streaming platforms which highlight tv shows and movies.

Furthermore, everyone wants to share their story. Look at Facebook, Instagram, or Tiktok, where you can literally upload a portion of your “story” to the world. Listen to any conversation among friends, and you’ll find story after story being shared. When we meet new people or chat with the coworkers, we tell and retell stories. We are always hearing stories.

Stories are a huge part of who we are. Because that’s how we see the world, it’s how we make sense of the world. We are storied beings. But we’re not the main character. All streaming platforms and social media seek to make each individual the main character in their own story.

As Christians, we must learn to see how our stories fit into the Biggest Story. We are gathering together this morning, in this building, because of the True Story of the World:

  • God sent his Son to save us from our sins, and His Spirit to indwell us.

  • Our Savior actually walked the earth, actually died, and actually rose again from the dead.

  • Through Christ and the Gospel, we really have been brought from death to life!

  • This story matters to our day to day lives, and the lives of others around us, so when we are telling our stories day by day, let us be telling this story.

Let’s tell the story of how, after Jesus commissioned the disciples, they told people, who told people, who told more people, who told more people, who eventually told each of us! Let’s tell each other how that happened!

This is our commission, to tell “the Story.” We see in many places in the Word where we are command to “bear witness.” From Acts 1:8, we are called to witness this Story to the ends of the earth.

So, Cities Church, tell your gospel stories to each other. Celebrate that we have been raised from death to life. Celebrate that we are we saved and are being transformed! Let’s fill our Community Groups and Life Groups with the Stories of Salvation and Sanctification.

Share how your story begins, how Christ called you to himself. Share your stories of how God is currently convicting you of your sin, and how the Gospel is applicable to that sin, and is fresh and new daily.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for where I have failed to share my story. Forgive me for where I have grown stale to the story of how you raised me from death to life. Forgive me for my pride that has kept me from confessing my sins, and sharing my brokenness and how your grace has been sufficient. Forgive me for how I’ve become jaded to retelling the Gospel story daily to myself.

Forgive me for where I have not shared my story with other believers. For when I haven’t taken in roads to share my story with non-believers. Forgive me for being ashamed of the Gospel, which is the Power of God.

And now Father, help us to search our hearts further and confess our sins in this time of silent confession.
